Shots fired at car in Oxford Twp. leads to 2 arrests

Oakland County Sheriff’s officials arrested two people in connection with a shooting of a vehicle Wednesday in Oxford Township.

A 20-year-old resident told deputies he and a friend ran into three acquaintances at a BP gas station on Lapeer Road, investigators said in a statement.

“As the victim and his passenger left the gas station, they noticed that the three subjects were following them in a maroon Chevrolet Trailblazer,” the release said.

The SUV followed them for about a half-mile to the intersection of Glaspie and Doral Drive. As the 20-year-old turned, investigators said, “the rear window shattered, leading the victims to believe they had been shot at.”

The driver headed to a home on Keith Street and called 911. Deputies found his vehicle’s rear windshield shattered and a bullet hole near the trunk, sheriff’s officials said. Shell casings also were found at the intersection where the shooting happened.

Investigators tracked down the SUV in the driveway of a home on the 200 block of West Drahner, where they arrested the 18-year-old driver.

Executing a search warrant on the TrailBlazer, authorities found a .45 caliber semi-automatic handgun.

The driver told investigators that a 17-year-old passenger in the backseat had fired the shots. That youth was found at an apartment in the 2900 block of Seymour Lake in Oxford Township, taken into custody and transported to a Sheriff’s Office substation for questioning.

Both of the teens were held at the Oakland County Jail pending charges. A third person with them during the shooting, identified as a 17-year-old Pontiac resident, was still being sought.
