Harbaugh: Wilton Speight looks 'better' but still 'day-to-day'

Ann Arbor – Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh said in his opinion, injured starting quarterback Wilton Speight has “looked better every day” but he would not offer more of an update as the Wolverines prepare this week for their final regular-season game against Ohio State.

Speight injured his left (non-throwing) shoulder late in the Iowa game. John O’Korn made his first Michigan start and played against Indiana last Saturday, and threw for 59 yards. His 30-yard run on a third-and-8 play in the third quarter gave the Wolverines a spark in the 20-10 win.

Before the game Speight, who was in uniform, did not take any snaps but made a few throws in pre-game warmups.

“I don’t have an update today,” Harbaugh said, referring to Speight, during his weekly news conference on Monday. “I have not evaluated.”

He was asked if O’Korn will start when No. 3 Michigan plays at No. 2 Ohio State.

“Just everything we’ve said. It hasn’t changed,” Harbaugh said. “It’s day-to-day process and evaluation.”

Harbaugh, reiterating he has no medical training, said Speight seems to be improving.

“He’s been better every day,” Harbaugh said. “That’s from my eye he’s gotten better every day. Now, to clarify, I’m not a doctor. No medical degree. I didn’t take any medical classes. But to my eye he’s looked better every day.”

Last Monday, Harbaugh said that reports Speight is out for the season were “not correct.”
