Farmington doctor accused of touching, kissing patient

A Farmington physician has been charged with assault after he allegedly touched and kissed a female patient against her will this summer.

Dr. Eliezer Monge, 78, was arraigned last week on an assault and battery charge related to a July incident, according to the Farmington Department of Public Safety.

An 18-year-old Farmington resident said Monge touched “her in such a way that made her feel very uncomfortable” during an examination. The woman told police that when Monge helped her into a sitting position after the physical examination, he leaned in and tried to kiss her on the mouth. The victim said she turned her head sideways to avoid the alleged kiss, and Monge kissed her on the neck with an open mouth.

Monge and the victim were the only people in the exam room, according to Farmington police. The woman said she panicked and left the office without checking out.

Monge denied the woman’s claims. A DNA sample taken from the woman’s neck matched a DNA sample taken from Monge, according to police.

“The actions of Dr. Monge in this case are reprehensible,” public safety director Frank Demers said. “The victim came to him for help, and sadly he took advantage of her in a manner that is both criminal and immoral.”

Demers said the department is concerned that due to the “brazenness” of Monge’s alleged actions, the July incident might not be the only time Monge inappropriately touched patients.

An assault and battery charge is punishable by 93 days in jail or a $500 fine. Monge was released on a $2,500 personal bond following his arraignment. Monge’s pretrial hearing is scheduled for Jan. 23.

Monge has an office in downtown Farmington.
