The Detroit Lions have lost cornerback Quandre Diggs for the season, according to former NFL Network reporter Rand Getlin. But according to a team source, the Lions are still evaluating options and an injured reserve decision has not yet been made.

Diggs, Detroit’s primary nickel corner, appeared in all 12 games this season, averaging 35 snaps. He recorded 44 tackles, including two for a loss, and one pass breakup. He left Sunday’s game early in the third quarter with a shoulder injury.

After waiving Johnthan Banks over the weekend, losing Diggs would leave the Lions with four cornerbacks on the roster, but none with extensive nickel experience.

The team had planned to utilize Nevin Lawson in that role as a rookie in 2014, but he’s since found a home on the outside.  Undrafted rookie Adairius Barnes has worked inside for the team on the practice field, but is still new to the position.

The Lions have been heavily utilizing a three-safety nickel package the past six games and will likely continue to feature the trio of Glover Quin, Tavon Wilson and Rafael Bush down the stretch, with rookie Miles Killebrew also getting some situational work.
