Here is the The Detroit News’ All-Metro East team, selected by David Goricki in consultation with coaches.

Andre Chandler, 6-2, 185, Sr., Warren Mott: Chandler was the big-play man for Mott with 31 receptions for 782 yards (25.2-yard average) and six TDs. He also had four interceptions as a lock-down defender.

Jaylen Hall, 6-3, 180, Sr., Macomb Dakota: Hall showed his big-play ability by having 235 all-purpose yards in the season-opening victory over St. Mary’s, scoring on three receiving TDs. For the season, he had 41 receptions for 1,103 yards and 18 TDs.

Jerrod Vines, 6-1, 175, Jr., St. Clair Shores South Lake: Vines had a sensational junior year, grabbing 63 passes for 838 yards and 14 TDs, also using his 4.46 speed to rush for 512 yards.

OFFENSIVE LINEMEN

Dezmond Lance, 6-2, 270, Sr., Sterling Heights Stevenson: Lance was a dominant two-way player for Stevenson, guard on offense and defensive end. He had 52 tackles, including 13 for loss, and scored two TDs, one on both sides of the ball.

Joe Schneider, 6-3, 285, Sr., Romeo: Schneider was a three-year starter, playing a key role in Romeo’s Division 1 championship run last year and its state semifinal run this season.

Matthew Surma, 6-4, 265, Sr., Utica Eisenhower: Surma was a tremendous blocker for the triple-option attack, helping Eisenhower set multiple school records, including 76 TDs, 42.5 points per game and 5,269 total yards.

Sal Vultaggio, 6-2, 265, Sr., Utica Eisenhower: Vultaggio was a dominant two-way starter for Eisenhower, leading it to multiple school records on offense, including 5,269 total yards, 76 TDs and 537 points. He was also in on 73 tackles, including 12 for loss, and six sacks while recovering two fumbles.

Dillon Webb, 6-3, 225, Sr., Grosse Pointe North: Webb, a four-year varsity performer, was a force on both sides of the ball, recording 81 tackles, 14 for loss, and nine sacks while also causing nine quarterback hurries. He also grabbed 25 passes as a tight end for 519 yards and five TDs.

Grosse Pointe North's Jared Jordan

RUNNING BACKS

Jared Jordan, 5-10, 210, Sr., Grosse Pointe North: Jordan rushed for 2,203 yards (8.5 average) and scored 30 TDs to help North reach the state playoffs. He set a single-game school record with 342 yards on 24 carries and four TDs in a 55-7 rout of Sterling Heights and was the first running back in 20 years at North to top the 2,000-yard mark.

Jack Provencher, 5-9, 195, Sr., Utica Eisenhower: Provencher, a three-year starter, broke the single-season school record with 1,579 yards rushing, averaging 8.8 yards while scoring 25 TDs. He also had three receiving TDs and got in on 42 tackles while intercepting two passes from his safety spot.

QUARTERBACK

Max Wittwer, 6-3, Jr., Utica Eisenhower: Wittwer was voted MAC Red Division MVP for helping Eisenhower win the division title, then earn a Division 1 regional championship before a 32-28 state-semifinal loss to Detroit Cass Tech. He completed 88 of 141 passes for 1,677 yards and 21 TDs (four INTs), and also averaged nearly eight yards per carry (819 yards, 8 TDs) while running the triple-option attack.

ATHLETE 

Lance Mitchell, 5-8, 185, Sr., St. Clair Shores South Lake: Mitchell, a transfer from Madison Heights Madison, was a big threat in South Lake’s spread, using his 4.5 speed to explode for 1,724 rushing yards and 31 TDs while also getting 423 receiving yards.

KICKER

Cam Shook, 6-1, 170, Jr., Grosse Pointe South: Shook had an outstanding season, making 8 of 12 field-goal tries with a long of 38 and converting 29 of 30 PATs. He also averaged 35.3 yards a punt with 20 placed inside the 20.

DEFENSIVE LINEMEN

Kris Campbell, 6-1, 295, Sr., Warren Mott: Campbell, a four-year starter for Mott, was a force in the middle of the defense for 41 games. He had 30 tackles, including three sacks, his senior season.

Mike Kizer, 6-4, 240, Sr., Warren Fitzgerald: Kizer was physical, aggressive and on the attack, getting in on 67 tackles, including 23 for loss, and seven sacks. He had 18 tackles in one game and 4½ sacks in another.

Patrick Nauert, 6-3, 270, Sr., Grosse Pointe South: Nauert was a dominant force on both sides of the ball for South, getting in on 68 tackles, including 19½ for loss, while also knocking down two passes. Nauert will play at Air Force.

Andrew Sharp, 6-3, 240, Sr., Grosse Pointe South: Sharp was a run-stopper for South, making 64 tackles, including 16½ for loss and 4½ sacks. He also played tight end.Sharp will play at Miami (Ohio).

LINEBACKERS

Nick Carl, 6-0, 210, Sr., Macomb Dakota: Carl was a fierce competitor and big hitter, helping Dakota reach the state playoffs for the 16th consecutive year. He made 98 tackles, including 10 for loss, and five sacks.

DeSean Hamilton, 6-2, 185, Sr., Richmond: Hamilton was an outstanding linebacker, helping Richmond earn the Bluewater championship and state playoff appearance. He also rushed for 1,146 yards and 15 TDs.

Dylan Jack, 6-0, 175, Sr., Algonac: Jack was all over the field, getting in on 117 tackles, eight for loss. He also intercepted a pass, forced a fumble and recovered another one to help Algonac to the Division 5 semifinals.

Grosse Pointe South's Davis Graham

DEFENSIVE BACKS

Davis Graham, 6-0, 175, Jr., Grosse Pointe South: Graham had a nose for the ball, a big reason he was in on 56 tackles while breaking up 20 passes and getting six interceptions to help 8-4 South win the MAC White title and advance to a Division 2 regional.

Kade Messner, 5-9, 175, Sr., Romeo: Messner was a three-year starter, helping Romeo win the Division 1 state championship last year and advancing to the state semifinals his senior year. He had 82 tackles, including five for loss, and also broke up 14 passes, forced two fumbles and recovered two fumbles. He rushed for 597 yards and eight TDs, as well.

Jacen Norman, 6-0, 185, Sr., St. Clair Shores Lakeview: Norman had a strong senior season as a two-way starter at running back and free safety. He rushed for 767 yards (6.8 average) and 11 TDs. He also had 44 tackles while breaking up six passes, forcing two fumbles, recovering three fumbles and intercepting a pass. Norman is being recruited by GLIAC schools.

Johnathon Stroble, 5-10, 175, Sr., Utica Eisenhower: Stroble was a big part of a defense that allowed just seven points a game while winning the MAC Red title and advancing to the Division 1 state semifinals. He was in on 66 tackles while intercepting seven passes and averaging 13.4 yards a punt return.

PUNTER

Anthony Secchi, 5-9, 160, Sr., Warren Cousino: Secchi was a four-year kicker and punter for Cousino, He finished with 153 career points and 54 touchbacks while averaging 36.4 yards a punt this season.

Utica Eisenhower coach Chris Smith

COACH OF THE YEAR

Chris Smith, Utica Eisenhower: Smith guided Eisenhower to a MAC Red championship and a Division 1 semifinal appearance, finishing the season with a 12-1 record following a 32-28 loss to eventual state champion Detroit Cass Tech.

Eisenhower set numerous school records, including points (539) and TDs (76) while picking up more than 5,200 yards. Smith has a 38-16 record in his five years as head coach at Eisenhower.
