East Lansing — Michigan State’s Miles Bridges was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week on Monday, the fifth time this season he has earned that honor.

The 6-foot-7 Bridges averaged 15.5 points and 10 rebounds in two games last week for the Spartans (16-11, 8-6 Big Ten).

In a victory early in the week over Ohio State, Bridges scored 17 points and pulled down 11 rebounds while blocking a pair of shots and grabbing two steals. He followed that with 14 points and nine rebounds in a loss at No. 16 Purdue on Saturday. Bridges is averaging 15.8 points and 8.4 rebounds and is shooting 51.1 percent in conference play.

Michigan State is back in action at 7 p.m. Thursday when it hosts Nebraska.
