Calipari won’t coach Pelicans with Cousins, Davis

The Detroit News

Even though former Kentucky star DeMarcus Cousins is headed to New Orleans, where he will play with another former Wildcat, Anthony Davis, don’t expect John Calipari to join them.

“Not happening,” the Kentucky coach said Monday on “The Dan Patrick Show,” when Patrick asked if he could start the rumors.

While Patrick’s question was in jest, Calipari went on to claim none of his former Kentucky stars want him to coach them in the pros.

“I’ve held every player I coached back, if you ask them,” Calipari said.

“I’d rather be in the situation I’m in, to help, to be a mentor, whatever they need me to be,” Calipari said.

Former Pistons assistant Alvin Gentry coaches the Pelicans.
