Dinged-up Red Wings call up forward Street

Montreal — The Red Wings called up forward Ben Street from Grand Rapids on Tuesday morning — just in case.

Street, 30, could be needed, with two Red Wings getting nicked during Monday’s 2-1 loss to Buffalo.

Frans Nielsen missed playing time in the second period because of an undisclosed injury, and Gustav Nyquist was on the receiving end of a big hit from Tyler Ennis late in the second period but missed no playing time.

Street, 30, is having a good season with the Griffins.

In 57 games, Street (5-foot-11, 200 pounds) has 51 points (23 goals, 28 assists) with a plus-1 plus-minus rating.

A career minor leaguer, Street has played in 29 NHL games with Calgary and Colorado with no goals and two assists.

Street played in seven games with Colorado last season, with no points.

The Red Wings recalled Street on an emergency basis, meaning he doesn’t count against their remaining three call-ups teams are allowed after the trade deadline.
