Boy shoots himself in the hand with mom’s gun

A nine-year-old boy found his mom’s gun in her purse and shot himself in the hand Saturday morning in Detroit.

Detroit Police Officer Jennifer Moreno said the boy’s mother was in the first floor of the home with two other children, when the boy was upstairs and found the gun. The incident happened around 9:50 a.m. in the 5500 block of the John C. Lodge Service Drive, she said.

The department’s child abuse unit is investigating as well as the state’s Child Protective Services, she said.
