N.C. homicide suspect arrested on Ambassador Bridge

Border patrol officers on Friday arrested a man trying to cross the Ambassador Bridge into Canada who is accused of first degree murder in North Carolina.

Jerome Jones is awaiting extradition in the Wayne County Jail after attempting cross the border in a vehicle with a woman around 4 a.m. without any identification, according to a news release from the U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

Fingerprint verification confirmed the man was Jones and he was arrested on a charge of first degree murder out of Cumberland County, North Carolina.

“CBP Officers went the extra mile to identify the subject of a murder warrant.” said Port Director Roderick Blanchard. “Our vigilance and attention to detail helps keep our communities safe.”

The Fayetteville Police‏ Department called Jones “extremely dangerous”

Jones, 26, was wanted in the death of 34-year-old Jason McKnight, according to WRAL-TV, in Raleigh, North Carolina.

The station reported that police accused Jones of driving up to McKnight in a vehicle while he was walking down the road and shooting him.
