Postcard from Rome: Getting in line worth the wait

While walking through Rome on Saturday, I spied a large line outside of a shop.

Without even considering what it might be, I jumped in. Had to be good, right, if so many people were waiting?

One by one, smiling people walked out of Frigidarium with chocolate-covered gelato. It looked glorious. Getting in that line might be one of my all-time great decisions.

I ordered some chocolate-mixture gelato and then told the woman to pick whatever flavor she wanted to add. “Would you like me to dip it in chocolate?” she asked, smirking. Like she had to ask.

It was my first meal in Rome, and it was spectacular. I define gelato this way: less fattening than ice cream, way fewer calories, like, no calories at all, which makes it the perfect thing to eat every day. That is my goal while covering the Michigan football team in Rome — I plan to eat gelato every day. And I will!
