MSU lands Iowa kicker Cole Hahn for 2017 season

East Lansing — It appears Michigan State is not done with its 2017 recruiting class, adding a nationally ranked kicker with preseason camp set to begin in a little more than three months.

Cole Hahn of Des Moines, Iowa, announced on Twitter on Thursday morning that he accepted a scholarship to play for Mark Dantonio at Michigan State, flipping his commitment from Iowa where he was to join the Hawkeyes as a walk-on.

“First I want to thank my family, friends, coaches and the man above for this amazing opportunity that has presented itself to me in this past week,” Hahn posted. “At this time I am decommitting from the University of Iowa, and I will be now taking my talents to East Lansing and accepting a scholarship opportunity to play for Coach Dantonio at Michigan State University. I am honored and humbled to be a Spartan! GO GREEN!”

Hahn is ranked the No. 16 kicker in the country, according to Kohl’s Kicking.

“He is a very coordinated kicker who has very good FG range,” Kohl’s stated on its rankings. “His (kickoffs) have gotten stronger over the summer. He is in a position to draw college interest in the months to come. Hahn seems to enjoy the big stage and enjoys competition.”

Hahn was a teammate of incoming quarterback Rocky Lombardi at West Des Moines High and will join redshirt freshman Matt Coghlin as a scholarship kicker competing to replace the graduated Michael Geiger.
