‘Flavor of Detroit’ ice cream contest starts Monday

Holland, Michigan-based Hudsonville Ice Cream is looking for ideas for a new flavor that embodies the ‘spirit of Detroit’

Do you have an imagination and a sweet tooth? Michigan-based Hudsonville Ice Cream is asking Metro Detroiters for help in designing its next flavor.

The company is looking for submissions the “Flavor of Detroit” to compliment their other Michigan-inspired flavors like Grand Traverse Bay Cherry Fudge, Tiger Traxx and Mackinac Island Fudge.

“Hudsonville Ice Cream takes great pride in our Michigan roots and passion for crafting premium ice cream,” Hudsonville’s director of sales and marketing CJ Ellens said in a press release.

“We’re inspired by like-minded artisans and the inventive energy coming from innovators, creators and makers in Detroit is challenging us to think more creatively. We want to harness that energy to develop an ice cream flavor representing the spirit of Detroit and the community as we continue to revolutionize the future of craft ice cream.”

The contest starts Monday. To enter your idea to go facebook.com/HudsonvilleIceCream and look for the official contest form. The ice cream makers are looking for flavor combinations and names that “best capture the spirit of Detroit.” The contest runs through May 26.

The winner, announced in June, gets $500 and a year supply of ice cream.

Hudsonville, made with locally-sourced ingredients, added three new labels to its 50-plus flavor line up this spring, including Bananas Foster, Peanut Butter Cheesecake and Peanut Butter Pretzel.
