Report: Ex-UM center Mark Donnal heading to Clemson

Former Michigan center Mark Donnal is going from the Big Ten to the Atlantic Coast Conference.

According to multiple reports, Donnal is transferring to Clemson for his final year of eligibility. The news was first reported by WTOL-11 in Toledo.

As a grad transfer, Donnal will be immediately eligible to play for the Tigers in the 2017-18 season.

Two weeks ago at Michigan’s basketball awards banquet, Donnal named Clemson, Vanderbilt and Creighton as possible landing spots.

Donnal will join a Clemson team that is coming off a 17-16 season under seventh-year coach Brad Brownell. The Tigers finished 12th out of 15 teams in ACC play with a 6-12 mark and lost to Oakland in the first round of the NIT.

Donnal, who averaged 3.9 points and two rebounds in 12.2 minutes last season, could likely battle for a starting job and receive plenty of playing time right away. Clemson only has one returning center, 7-footer Legend Robertin, who scored 14 points in 15 games.

At Michigan, Donnal played in 101 career games with 34 starts. He started the first 10 games his sophomore year before losing the job and then took over the starting role midway through the 2015-16 season as a junior.

With the emergence of Moritz Wagner, Donnal came off the bench for all 38 games in 2016-17 and saw his role significantly reduced once Big Ten play started.

For his career, Donnal averaged 5.1 points and 2.6 rebounds in 14.2 minutes.
