If you were wondering what 840-horsepower, the ability to do a wheelie off the line and to constantly terrify your neighbors will cost, now you know.

Dodge’s Challenger SRT Demon, officially unveiled at the New York International Auto Show in April, has a manufacturer’s suggested retail price of $84,995. Fiat Chrysler Automobiles announced the pricing structure Tuesday — an amount that includes $1,700 for a gas guzzler tax.

What do you expect for what FCA has described as “the most powerful muscle car ever...”

“Eighty-five thousand dollars is not just a number in a business case to Dodge; we know it’s a lot of money and a significant up-charge over a Challenger Hellcat,” said Tim Kuniskis, head of Passenger Cars — Dodge, SRT, Chrysler and Fiat, FCA North America, in a press release Tuesday. “We worked very hard to build as much value into the Challenger SRT Demon as possible — features, performance and exclusivity that simply can’t be duplicated with a goal of maintaining, and possibly even growing, as much future value as possible.”

Production of the limited edition car will begin later this year in Ontario. The plant in Brampton will churn out 3,000 vehicles for sale in the U.S., along with 300 for the Canadian market.

Vehicles are expected to reach dealerships in the fall.
