Ex-Lion Johnson visits Raiders as ‘special guest’

The Detroit News

Former Lions wide receiver Calvin Johnson is back in NFL camp this week.

But, only as a spectator.

Johnson visited the Oakland Raiders on Tuesday, and will be a “special guest” for their OTAs this week, the team posted on Twitter.

The Raiders tweeted a photo of Johnson in a white Oakland shirt. According to a story on the Raiders website, Johnson is a guest of Raiders offensive coordinator Todd Downing, who had several positions with the Lions from 2009-2013, most recently serving as quarterbacks coach from 2011-13.

Johnson spent nine seasons in the NFL — all with the Lions — before retiring after the 2015 season with 11,619 career yards and 83 touchdowns. A six-time Pro Bowler, Johnson holds the single-season record for receiving yards (1,964), set in 2012.

Johnson was in the news this week after he revealed he was disappointed in the way he was treated by the Lions following his retirement.
