RED WINGS

17 weekend home games highlight Wings' '17-18 schedule

The Detroit News

Detroit — The Red Wings released their 2017-18 regular season schedule Thursday, highlighted with 17 weekend home games — five Fridays, seven Saturdays, and five Sunday games at the new Little Caesars Arena.

The Red Wings will play four games against each Atlantic Division rival (28 games), three games against the eight teams in the Eastern Conference’s Metropolitan Division (24 games) and two games against all 15 Western Conference teams (30 games).

The Red Wings' schedule for the 2017-18 season was unveiled Thursday.

The Red Wings open the home portion of the Little Caesars Arena schedule Oct. 5 against Minnesota.

A four-game road trip follows for the Red Wings, including their first game in Las Vegas Oct. 13.

The return of the traditional New Year’s Eve game will see the Red Wings face the two-time Stanley Cup champion Pittsburgh Penguins.

The Red Wings have 12 back-to-back sets of games this season — after having 17 of them last season.

The Vegas Golden Knights visit Detroit for the first time March 8.

The Red Wings will host 13 of 15 games beginning Nov. 11 against Columbus, and ending Dec. 15 against Toronto.
