Body of missing Lake St. Clair boater found

A dive team on Saturday recovered the body of a boater who wen missing a day earlier on Lake St. Clair after the annual Jobbie Nooner party.

The Macomb County Sheriff’s Office in a statement said a dive team recovered the body of Virdest Orlando Day, 45, of Redford Township, about 300 feet south of Huron Pointe off Lake St. Clair Metro Park in seven feet of water.

The statement said an investigation continues, but no foul play is suspected.

On Friday, the sheriff’s Marine Division responded to a radio distress call at about 8:05 p.m. reporting a boater near Lake St. Clair Metropark “had gone into the water and had not been seen for 10 minutes,” investigators said in a statement.

Day had been on a a 26-foot Crownline cabin cruiser with at least six other people returning from the Jobbie Nooner boating event held earlier on Gull Island.

He fell without a lifejacket, sheriff’s officials said. Other passengers dove in to help him but were unsuccessful.
