4-game ban is latest suspension for Lions’ Bryant

Allen Park — For the third time in a year, Detroit Lions defensive end Armonty Bryant has been suspended by the NFL.

The league announced Tuesday that Bryant will miss the first four games of the 2017 season due to violating the league’s substance-abuse policy. He suffered the same consequences last season as a member of the Cleveland Browns for violating the league’s policy on performance-enhancing substances.

Additionally, Bryant was suspended another three games, after being claimed off waivers by the Lions, stemming from a 2015 arrest. That punishment was handed down after he pleaded guilty to reduced charge of attempted drug possession.

Byrant appeared in five games for Detroit last season, recording three sacks. He finished the campaign on injured reserve. He re-signed with the club in March to a one-year, $855,000 deal that included a $40,000 signing bonus.
