Detroit — Police believe the same suspect might be responsible for three freeway shootings in the city early Thursday morning.

Michigan State Police believe the suspect was driving a gray or silver sedan in two of the three incidents.

"At this time, there is no relationship between any of the victims, however with the locations of these shootings and the updated timelines, detectives are treating all three incidents having the same suspect(s)," Lt. Mike Shaw said in a statement.

One incident took place on the city’s east side, the others on the west side. Michigan State Police investigate crimes on Michigan freeways.

Michigan State Police search Interstate 94 for evidence following an early-morning shooting on the freeway Dec. 7, 2017

At 2:40 a.m., on westbound Interstate 94 near Gratiot, on the city’s east side, a man from Chesterfield Township was driving to work when a vehicle pulled alongside and started firing shots.

He was struck in the leg but was able to exit the freeway and go to a gas station, where he called police. He has since been treated and released.

Despite closing the freeway for 90 minutes to search for evidence, none was found.

At 2:57 a.m., a man from Northville was headed home from work, traveling westbound on Interstate 96 near Davison, when a light-colored vehicle, possibly a silver Chevy Impala, pulled alongside and started firing shots.

The man wasn't hit; his vehicle was. He pulled over to the shoulder and called 911. Police closed part of the freeway for about an hour and recovered two shell casings.

Another shooting was reported around the same time at I-96 and Livernois. A male victim told police someone fired shots at his vehicle.
