Break out the chopsticks, Detroit’s getting a Sushi Festival this summer.

Scheduled for Aug. 24 in Eastern Market’s Shed 3, the Detroit Sushi Festival will feature Japanese and other Asian cuisine, plus vendors and live entertainment.

Organizer Michael King says he wants the festival to showcase the area’s talented sushi chefs.

“We decided to launch this festival because, although Detroit is far from the ocean, there is no shortage of excellent sushi and we’re determined to prove it,” he said.

Vendors and sponsors are still being collected. Those interested should email Detroitsushifest@gmail.com.

Early bird tickets are $27 for general admission, which includes admission, 10 tasting tickets and souvenir chopsticks. VIP passes are $54 and include 20 tastings, one drink, chopsticks, one-hour early admission to beat the crowds and access to reserved seating and a separate bar and restrooms. Prices will go up closer to the event.

Additional tasting tickets will be available for purchase, and the 21-and-older event will have a cash bar, too. The event is scheduled for 5:30-10:30 p.m.

Visit detroitsushifest.com on Feb. 28 for tickets.
