Ann Arbor — Michigan athletic director Warde Manuel has made it clear to men’s basketball coach John Beilein that he has job for the rest of his career with the Wolverines.

Beilein, 65, signed a two-year contract extension in November, 2015, and is under contract through 2021. Michigan pays him $3.37 million annually, which made him the ninth-highest paid coach in college basketball this past season.

He led Michigan to a second-straight Big Ten Tournament championship and the NCAA Tournament national championship game.

Manuel was asked Wednesday after a soccer news conference about a contract extension for Beilein.

“I don’t want John Beilein to coach any other place,” Manuel said.

He was asked if he’s had that discussion with Beilein.

“I don’t want John Beilein to coach anywhere else, and he knows that,” Manuel said. “He understands my feeling toward that. You can take that for what it’s worth. I’m not prepared to make a statement today, but I don’t want him to go anywhere else.”
