Detroit — Team USA stayed unbeaten Thursday at the men’s hockey world championships in Denmark with a closer than expected 3-2 overtime victory over Latvia.

Cam Atkinson (Columbus) scored 1 minute 23 seconds into overtime to give USA — coached by the Red Wings’ Jeff Blashill — its fourth consecutive victory in the tournament.

The Red Wings’ Dylan Larkin (Waterford) and Farmington Hills native Alex DeBrincat (Chicago Blackhawks) assisted on Chris Kreider’s (N.Y. Rangers) first-period goal, while DeBrincat — named Team USA’s best player in Thursday’s game — also assisted on Colin White’s second-period goal.

Team USA outshot Latvia (2-1-1) 30-19, with USA goalie Keith Kinkaid stopping 17 shots.
