Buddy's Pizza and Griffin Claw Brewing have teamed up again to release Bocce IPA, out Friday.

Buddy’s Pizza and Griffin Claw Brewing Company have teamed up for another signature brew: Bocce IPA.

To honor the pizza mainstay’s 70th anniversary in 2016, the Birmingham brewery collaborated to produce Buddy Beer, a drinkable American Pale Wheat Ale. That’s still in production, and on Friday, they’re to release their second project, Bocce IPA.

Bocce is being described as a “smooth IPA” and is 7 percent alcohol by volume, and clocks in at 60 on the bitterness scale. Made with four types of hops, the beer will be served at all nine of Buddy’s full-service locations.

“We’ve enjoyed a good game of bocce as long as we’ve enjoyed providing the original Detroit-style pizza: 72 years,” said Wes Pikula, Buddy’s Pizza chief operations officer. “We’re thrilled to partner with world-class Brewmaster Dan Rogers and the Griffin Claw Brewing team to provide another Michigan-brewed craft beer option while paying homage to a longtime Buddy’s tradition.”

The beer is named for bocce ball, a non-contact ball game popular in Italy and other parts of Europe. The original Buddy’s location at 17125 Conant in Detroit has a bocce court that is open to diners.
