Detroit named one of America's most vegan-friendly cities

Detroit's animal-friendly restaurants are keeping up with the city's up-and-coming burger spots and already famous hot dogs.
The Motor City was recently named one of the top 10 most vegan-friendly cities, according to People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals.
Detroit placed sixth on PETA's 2018 Top 10 Vegan-Friendly Cities in the U.S. on Tuesday.
The city's Detroit Vegan Soul, Greenspace Café and more were honored by PETA who stated, "Detroit is gaining a reputation as an oasis of vegan cuisine."
"From the hearty Soul Platter at Detroit Vegan Soul to the Vegan Pastor Tacos at Rocky's Road Brew, the Motor City is going full speed ahead toward top-notch vegan dining," PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman said in a news release. "All the cities on PETA's list are responding to the booming demand for vegan fare with healthy and humane dishes that are as delicious as they are kind to animals."

Detroit Vegan Soul opened a second location in order to bring Detroiters even more healthy and humane food. PETA highlighted its standout Soul Platter, which is heaped high with creamy mac 'n' cheese, smoked collards, maple-glazed yams, black-eyed peas and a crumbly cornbread muffin.
Food truck Rocky’s Road Brew was mentioned for an all-vegan taco menu, including chorizo, southern-fried tofu “chicken,” and al pastor tacos in Southwest Detroit.
Nosh Pit — in Hamtramck — has moved from a food truck to a brick-and-mortar location that serves up its unique take on the Reuben (with roasted beets), cauliflower steak and mac and cheese.
At the upcoming Chili Mustard Onions, you’ll even be able to enjoy a vegan coney island-style hot dog.
Every weekend, Moore Herbs hosts a “Soul Food Saturday” and features dishes like Macaroni and Cheez, BBQ Lentil Loaf, and Jamaican Jerk Vegetables.
It's not Detroit's first time on the list, but it is for some Motown newcomers including, The Grim Feeder — a pop-up that boasts soyrizo Mexican waffles, vegan poached egg and tres leches cake.
Vegginini’s Paradise Café on the east side offers up vegan tortas, vegan chili cheese chicken sandwiches, curry-fried chicken and lasagna.
Many bars and restaurants are also developing vegan menus — like Ale Mary’s in Royal Oak, which is now serving vegan boozy milkshakes, Impossible Burgers and more.
Detroit also just hosted its very first vegan event — V313 — in March which drew huge crowds to Eastern Market.
