Sporting News: Lions' Bob Quinn No. 21 among NFL general managers

The Detroit News

In his third year as the Detroit Lions' general manager, Bob Quinn appears to be putting his stamp on the team.

Vinnie Iyer of the Sporting News writes that the time is coming to start seeing better results.

The Detroit Lions' Bob Quinn ranks 21st out of 32 NFL general managers, according to the Sporting News.

Iyer lists Quinn at No. 21 in his rankings of the NFL's 32 general managers, posted Wednesday. That's a drop of five spots from 2017.

"As yet another NFL decision-maker with a Patriots background, Quinn has a good sense of how to construct the Lions," Iyer writes. "But Detroit has not yet become more than a mildly above-average team, as familiar problems with the running game and defense persist. In Year 3 and now with Matt Patricia as his coach, Quinn's positive personnel vibes need to start turning into bigger results."

Quinn has rebuilt the Lions through the trenches, most notably with a revamped offensive line punctuated by the selection of Arkansas center/guard Frank Ragnow in the first round of April's NFL Draft.

The Lions, however, put together identical 9-7 records in his first two seasons, including a playoff appearance after the 2016 season. The Lions ranked last in rushing yards per game and yards per carry last season, and 30th in rushing in 2016.

Howie Roseman of the Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles tops Iyer's rankings.
