There wasn’t much of a decision for the Detroit Pistons to make.

Good player. Low-cost contract. No-brainer.

The Pistons retained wing Reggie Bullock by exercising their team option for an economical $2.5 million for next season. It was a predictable outcome for Bullock, who had a breakout season with career highs of 11.3 points, 2.5 rebounds and 44.5 percent on 3-pointers — which ranked second in the NBA — last season.

Bullock, 27, signed a two-year deal last summer for $5 million, with a team option for 2018-19. It was a bargain at the time for then-president Stan Van Gundy, who brought Bullock back after a so-so season in 2016-17.

It paid off, as Bullock found his footing in joining the starting lineup on Dec. 12 — and shined in the new role. He played small forward for a stretch, then after the trade for Blake Griffin in January, he moved to shooting guard, where he became their most consistent outside shooter.

It’s unclear whether Bullock will continue in the starting role, with the arrival of new coach Dwane Casey, though with a focus on 3-point shooting, it’s likely he could remain there.
