Red Wings, Pistons turn to mobile tickets for 2018-19
Detroit — The Detroit Red Wings and Pistons will start using mobile ticketing as their main method of entry for games at Little Caesars Arena, starting with the 2018-19 season.
“Both our organizations have been testing mobile technologies throughout the last year and have received positive feedback from both sports fans and concert goers," Ilitch Holdings and the Pistons said in a statement Wednesday.
"Guests are provided a streamlined and convenient experience, along with greater security when tickets are sold or transferred.
"We’re excited to fully transition to the mobile ticketing process, and continue to provide our guests a world-class sports and entertainment experience.”

Mobile tickets, a growing trend throughout the country, allows fans to use their cell phone as their game ticket, with a barcode that can be scanned.

In announcing the move, the Red Wings and Pistons said this new protocol will reduce the chances of fans getting fraudulent tickets, as well as allowing for convenient transferring and re-selling of tickets.
PDF tickets, either printed or copied on a cell phone, no longer will be accepted.
The Red Wings recommend fans store their tickets on the The District Detroit App, while the Pistons recommend the Detroit Pistons app. Both apps are available at the App Store (iPhone) or Google Play (Android).

It's unclear if the mobile-ticketing policy will include concerts and special events.
