Investigators who recovered a missing man's body floating in Walled Lake have ruled the drowning a suicide Thursday, officials said.

The Oakland County Sheriff's Office said the 37-year-old man's body was found floating in 10 feet of water with cinder blocks tied to his feet.

Deputies said a passing boater noticed the body and notified Walled Lake Police at 4 p.m. Wednesday. Police called the Oakland County Sheriff's Office Dive Rescue Team to the scene.

Investigators said the man, who had previously attempted suicide, had tied the cinder blocks to his feet before entering the water. Due to the condition of the body, it had become buoyant and rose to the surface.

The Oakland County Medical Examiner has ruled the death a suicide.

The man was last seen by family members at 6:30 a.m. Sunday when he launched a canoe onto the lake. He was reported missing to Walled Lake police on Wednesday afternoon by family members, who told police it was not uncommon for him to leave for several days without notifying them of his whereabouts.
