Buffalo's Anchor Bar is hosting soft service at its new Rochester Hills location and will have a grand opening Monday.

The Anchor Bar in Buffalo, New York is said to be where the appetizer staple known as Buffalo wings were invented in the 1960s.

Now with locations across the country, Anchor Bar has opened its first Michigan restaurant — called Buffalo's Anchor Bar — in Rochester Hills. Soft service is rolling out this weekend with a grand opening on Monday.

There's no relation to Detroit's Anchor Bar on Fort street downtown.

The world-famous wings — deep fried and served with choice of sauce, celery and bleu cheese — are the focus of the menu. Watch out for the award-winning, extremely hot "suicidal" sauce.

The award-winning wings were created by the family's matriarch Teressa Bellissimo at the original location after her son's friends arrived at the bar with big appetites one night in 1964. Anchor Bar and its secret wing sauce has received many awards since then, including a 2003 James Beard Foundation American Classic's Award, an honor given to timeless American restaurants.

Anchor Bar also serves boneless wings and chicken fingers, and is known for the lasagna and pizza logs. Each location has some menu items that are specific to the region, and in Michigan's case this branch will serve fried perch.

Buffalo's Anchor Bar is at 2945 S. Rochester in Rochester Hills. Call (833) 699-4647 or visit anchorbarMI.com.
