Santa Clara, Calif. -- Despite saying he was optimistic about his chances on Friday, Detroit Lions defensive end Ziggy Ansah was unable to go against the San Francisco 49ers Sunday afternoon.

Ansah recorded a sack in the season-opener, but suffered a shoulder injury early in the first half. He reportedly avoided a major injury and returned to practice in a limited capacity this week.

Durability has been an issue that past three years. Sunday marks the sixth game he's missed since the start of the 2016 season.

“I’d just like to be out there fighting with my brothers,” Ansah said on Friday. “It’s just, it’s sad. It’s sad to be going through this and not being able to be out there, helping them win.”

Also inactive for the Lions are tight end Hakeem Valles, wide receiver Brandon Powell, guard T.J. Lang, offensive tackle Andrew Donnel, guard Jamil Demby and running back Ameer Abdullah.

That means defensive tackle A'Shawn Robinson is active for the game. The former second-round pick was a healthy scratch in Week 1.

"I really like A’Shawn," defensive coordinator Paul Pasqualoni said. "I think that he’s working very hard and he’s doing a good job. We’re excited about him and excited to have him on the team. And he’s working very well."
