Michigan's Harbaugh says Tarik Black 'progressing' in rehab for broken foot

Ann Arbor — Michigan receiver Tarik Black was on the sideline with a boot on his right foot during last Saturday’s game against Nebraska, and rehab has been going well.

Black suffered a broken foot the week before the season opener.

Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh said Monday during his weekly news conference that Black is "rehabbing good."

“His doctor will be coming into town when the Packers play the Lions (Oct. 7)," Harbaugh said. "I think he’s got a scheduled appointment then to take a look at it. Could have some good news at that point. Things look really good the way he’s progressing.”

Running back Chris Evans was held out of the Nebraska game because of an undisclosed injury and Kwity Paye appeared to suffer an injury in the game.

“I don’t have an update on Kwity, and not really one on Chris,” Harbaugh said. (Evans) hasn’t practiced or done anything on the field yet. Don’t know exactly where that’s going to be today.”

Starting defensive end Rashan Gary was asked Monday if he was banged up in the Nebraska game.

“No. Coach came off and said, ‘Yeah, I want Aidan (Hutchinson) to get some reps, so I said, ‘OK,’” Gary said. “I’m not going to tell them no. That’s my brother. I want to see him shine. If I shine, we all shine and vice versa.”

Gary played coy when it was pointed out that medical trainers spent some time with him on the sideline apparently looking at his right shoulder.

“My right arm? Are you sure?” Gary said, smiling. “It was something wrong with my shoulder pads, so I had to go off and check in with them, but everything was good.”

It was then mentioned that they spent a lot of time with the shoulder pads.

“It’s a different type of shoulder pads,” he said, still smiling. “You got to make sure. You’ve got to take care of them.”
