A few plays after being laid out by a vicious targeting penalty, Donovan Peoples-Jones scored on a 34-yard pass from Shea Patterson for Michigan.

Maryland linebacker Tre Watson was called for the targeting and will not be able to play in the first half against Rutgers next week.

Michigan pulling away from Terps

After Maryland punted its first possession of the second half, Michigan settled for a field goal.

Earlier on the drive, Donovan Peoples-Jones caught a 40-yard touchdown pass from Shea Patterson that was called back on a holding penalty.

Maryland defensive back Rayshad Lewis was ejected from the game for targeting and will sit out the first half of next week’s game against Rutgers.

Patterson was rolling left and threaded the pass through the secondary.

Michigan D-line loses player to injury

Michigan defensive lineman Michael Dwumfour was taken off the field on a cart after suffering what looked like a painful injury on his right leg.

Maryland inserted Tyrrell Pigrome at quarterback, who has been used in every game this season for interim coach Matt Canada, but came up empty on the possession. Michigan takes over on its 36.

Mason gets Michigan lead back

Maryland punter Wade Lees, who is 30 and from Australia, pinned Michigan inside the 5 to start their first drive of the second quarter.

Shea Patterson found Nico Collins for a 51-yard pickup to take Michigan to the Maryland 26.

Then, wide receiver Grant Perry took a lateral and passed to Sean McKeon for a 12-yard gain.

The 11-play, 95-yard drive was capped by a 1-yard touchdown run by Ben Mason.

Michigan could not answer the kick return TD as Darnell Savage Jr. intercepted Shea Patterson after a tipped pass off Zach Gentry’s hands.
