This artist's rendering shows the planned 130-room Shinola Hotel that will see the overhaul of two Woodward Avenue buildings.

When the Shinola Hotel opens later this year, it will bring with it new bar and restaurant options for downtown Detroit.

Expected to open in December, the Shinola Hotel will house San Morello, which is being presented as an "urban Italian neighborhood restaurant." At the helm is chef Andrew Carmellini, a James Beard Award-winning chef from New York City.

Carmellini's NoHo Hospitality group of NYC is overseeing the food and beverage service for the hotel. Carmellini is an Ohio native, and one of his partners is Josh Pickard of Huntington Woods.

Besides San Morello, the Shinola Hotel will have an American beer hall called the Brakeman with rotating Midwest craft beer on draft and bar games like ping-pong, foosball and shuffleboard.

Evening Bar will be a polished, modern and comfortable cocktail lounge with craft drinks and bar snacks. There's another Evening Bar inside TriBeCa's Smyth Hotel on Broadway in NYC.

Last week the names of four retailers going into the hotel were announced: juice maker Drought, clothing company Madewell, fragrance brand Le Labo and clothing store Good Neighbor.

The Shinola Hotel is at 1400 Woodward in Detroit. A project of Shinola luxury goods brand and Bedrock real esate, the property will have eight floors, 130 rooms and 16,000-square-feet of food, beverage and retail.
