Michigan rises in both polls, Michigan State 24th in AP

Michigan climbed to No. 6 from No. 12 in the Associated Press college football poll on Sunday on the strength of its 38-13 win over Wisconsin on Saturday night.

Michigan State, which fell out of the rankings last week after the loss to Northwestern, made it back into the rankings at No. 24 after the 21-17 upset win over Penn State.

In the Amway coaches' poll, Michigan climbed to No. 7 from No. 13 but Michigan State remained unranked.

The Wolverines (6-1) and Spartans (4-2) will meet in their annual rivalry game this Saturday at East Lansing (noon, Fox).

After four of the top eight teams in the AP rankings lost Saturday, the poll has a new look behind No. 1 Alabama, with Ohio State reaching No. 2, LSU jumping back to No. 5 and Michigan moving into the top 10 for the first time this season.

The Crimson Tide received all but one of the 61 first-place votes from the media panel, with Ohio State receiving the other. No. 3 Clemson and No. 4 Notre Dame also moved up a spot. LSU jumped eight after handing Georgia its first loss of the season. The Bulldogs slipped from No. 2 to No. 8.

Texas is up two spots to No. 7 after getting past Baylor and No. 9 Oklahoma moved back into the top 10 while it was idle.
