Allen Park — It's been nine long years since Nevin Lawson has played a game back home, in South Florida.

The Lions' Nevin Lawson, who starred at Piper High School in Sunrise, Fla., expects 30 or so friends and family members at Sunday's game in Miami.

A standout at Piper High School in Sunrise, Fla., about 30 miles north of Miami, Lawson played both cornerback and running back for the school. A two-star recruit, he accepted an offer to play for Utah State, and in four years with the Aggies, the closest he came to a trip home were roads games against Louisiana Tech and Auburn. With the Lions, he's played in Tampa, four hours west of Sunrise.

This week, Lawson will get his homecoming, when the Lions travel south to play the Dolphins.

"Oh yeah, I’ve got a lot of family that’s coming," Lawson said. "It’s going to be something special, but, at the end of the day, you just have to stay focused, locked in and get ready to win. That’s the main thing I try to preach to my family, I don’t have time to meet everybody and be talking to everybody. I’m coming down here to win a game. I just want to make sure I stay focused and get ready for the game.

Lawson is expecting a personal cheering section of approximately 30 family members, friends and former coaches to be attendance for Sunday's game. Just don't expect him to be providing the tickets.

"I just tell them to go on stubhub.com and you can get all the tickets you want," Lawson said with a smile."
