Steve Yzerman might be returning to the Red Wings.

Chris Ogood thinks it's "inevitable" that his former teammate, Steve Yzerman, returns to the Detroit Red Wings in a front-office role.

Osgood, a former goalie and now an analyst on Fox Sports Detroit, made the comments Friday on 97.1 The Ticket's "Jamie & Stoney" show.

"Me guessing, yeah, I think it's inevitable that at some point in time he will be here," said Osgood, adding he hasn't talked to Yzerman about his plans.

"It just has to be the right moment."

Yzerman, 53, stunned the NHL world last month when he stepped down as Lightning GM to move into another front-office role in Tampa.

He has one year left on his contract.

Red Wings GM Ken Holland has two years left on his contract.

"I know people are over Ken Holland, but he's the guy that built the team back in the early 1990s," Osgood told hosts Jamie Samuelsen and Mike Stone.

"He's a Hall-of-Fame GM. I think they'll wait for the right time.

"Eventually, I believe (Yzerman) will be here."

Red Wings CEO Christopher Ilitch has refused to comment on Yzerman's future, and Holland has said he's not looking over his shoulder.

Yzerman keeps a home in Metro Detroit and commutes to Florida.

This year's Red Wings still are looking for their first victory.
