Ex-Red Wing Jordin Tootoo announces retirement

Former Red Wing Jordin Tootoo is hanging up his skates.

Tootoo took to Twitter Friday night to announce his retirement from professional hockey.

"After 220 regular season games with the Wheat Kings and 723 games in the NHL I have decided to retire from the NHL to focus on giving back to the Indigenous community," Tootoo tweeted.

Tootoo spent two seasons in Detroit (2012-14) and tallied six assists and three goals in 53 games.

He began his professional career with the Brandon Wheat Kings in the Western Hockey League before going on to a 13-year NHL career. He spent his first eight seasons in Nashville (2003-12), two in New Jersey (2014-16) and one in Chicago (2016-17), and racked up 96 assists and 65 goals in 723 career games.
