FanGraphs ranks Tigers farm system No. 8 in all of baseball

The Detroit Tigers' farm system long has been criticized at best, mocked at worst.

Well, times, they are a chagin'.

FanGraphs on Monday unveiled its team prospect rankings, and the Tigers checked in at — get this — eighth overall.

The FanGraphs rankings add up every prospect who grades between a 40 and 70, and assigns a team a cumulative score based on what that could equate to in present-day Wins Above Replacement and a monetary value.

The Tigers' present-day WAR is 27.8, for a value of $250 million. A single WAR is valued at nearly $9 million.

The Tigers trail only the San Diego Padres, Atlanta Braves, Chicago White Sox, Tampa Bay Rays, Toronto Blue Jays, Cincinnati Reds and Minnesota Twins.

The Tigers have seven prospects check in at 129 or better in the FanGraphs model, including pitcher Casey Mize, the No. 1 overall pick in the June draft (33); outfielder Daz Cameron (42); infielder Isaac Paredes (43), pitcher Matt Manning (110); pitcher Franklin Perez (113); outfielder Christin Stewarrt (117); and pitcher Beau Burrows (129).

Al Avila's Tigers are in full rebuild mode, following consecutive 64-win seasons. 

They have the No. 5 overall pick in the upcoming draft.
