Recap: Michigan's dance comes to end in 63-44 loss to Texas Tech

Game summary

Everything that could have went wrong for Michigan in its Sweet 16 matchup with Texas Tech did on Thursday night. 

The Wolverines were 1-for-19 from the 3-point line and gave up 16 points off turnovers in a 63-41 defeat, ending their season. 

Ignas Brazdeikis had a team-high 17 points and 13 rebounds.

Texas Tech runs out clock on Michigan's season

Jarrett Culver continues to dance on Michigan's grave with a dunk, and Tariq Owens joins him with a vicious block on Eli Brooks at the other end. Jordan Poole hits a jump shot. 

Michigan's reserves have come into the game.

Michigan clinging to life in game's final minutes

Ignas Brazdeikis dunks again. He has 13 of Michigan's 17 second-half points.

Charles Matthews is fouled on a drive to the rim. He makes a pair of free throws to cut Tech's lead to 21.

Jarrett Culver converts a layup and is fouled in the process. He makes the free throw. Then Isaiah Livers has a 3-pointer blocked. 

Jordan Poole steals and dishes to Matthews, who finishes with a layup.

Brazdeikis' effort not enough as Tech continues scorching run

Jarrett Culver hits a reverse layup. Ignas Brazdeikis converts an and-1 layup. He makes the free throw. It's 43-27, Tech.

Culver then responds with an and-1 layup of his own at the other end.

Charles Matthews misses a 3-pointer. The Wolverines are 0-for-13. Culver continues to kill the Wolverines, adding another layup to the stat sheet. Brazdeikis responds with a mid-range jumper.

Brandone Francis converts inside for the Red Raiders, and Texas Tech's offense is rolling. Tariq Owens is then fouled after Zavier Simpson commits a turnover, Michigan's 11th of the game, and adds a free throw.

Matt Mooney follows up a hollow Brazdeikis dunk with a 3-pointer that catches nothing but nylon, and feels like the final nail in Michigan's

coffin. We'll see.

Texas Tech pulling away as Michigan struggles from deep

Jordan Poole gets to the rim and converts a layup. Jon Teske picks up a foul on the other end.

Michigan is 0-for-11 from deep after a missed Teske 3-pointer.

Ignas Brazdeikis gets a tough bucket inside, following up a Teske shot that was blocked. Davide Moretti hits a pretty mid-range jumper that makes it 38-22, Tech.

Isaiah Livers misses a 3-pointer. 0-for-12. Tech's Kyler Edwards hits a contested 3-pointer, making it a 19-point game.

Charles Matthews is fouled inside and will go to the line for two. He makes both.

Texas Tech comes out of the locker room on fire

Second half is underway. Michigan starts with it. Jon Teske immediately draws a shooting foul. He misses both free throws. Matt Mooney then throws a nice move to get to the paint and drills a jumper over Zavier Simpson.

Charles Matthews then airballs a wide-open 3-pointer. Davide Moretti drills a 3-pointer on the other end. Tech leads by 13, which at this point, feels like ... well, it feels like a lot more than 13.

Ignas Brazdeikis drives to the rim and is fouled. He makes both ensuing free throws.

After Jarrett Culver misses a baseline jumper, Tariq Owens fouls Brazdeikis while chasing after a rebound. Zavier Simpson then makes a questionable pass down the baseline to Matthews, which forces him to step out of bounds while reaching for the ball. That's nine turnovers for Michigan.

Owens throws down a thunderous dunk on the other end, and the Red Raiders are feeling it. Mooney pickpockets Matthews, the Red Raiders go the other way, and Moretti drills another triple. Tech leads by 16.

Brazdeikis is blocked by Deshawn Corprew. Owens puts home another banger of a dunk at the other end.

Michigan trails Tech by 8 at half

A Jon Teske 3-pointer somehow rims in and out. Ignas Brazdeikis grabs the rebound, but loses the ball while going up at the rim.

Jarrett Culver and Brazdeikis then trade layups, making it 15-12, Tech. 

Teske gets fouled inside while going up for a shot.

Matt Mooney drills a 3-pointer for the Red Raiders. It's a 6-point lead for the Red Raiders, which quickly turns into 4 after Teske throws home a dunk at the other end.

Jarrett Culver hits a deep 2 to make it a 6-point game once again. Now this, my friends, is March. 

Teske is fouled off the ball. Michigan is in the bonus, so the Michigan big man will go to the line. He hits both. It's 20-16.

Scoring coming at a premium for Michigan in first half

Colin Castleton commits turnover No. 5 for Michigan following the break. But not to fear, Michigan fans: Norense Odiase shoots an air-ball at the other end.

Charles Matthews is called for a foul in the paint on Michigan's next defensive possession. Michigan gets a stop, but Zavier Simpson then turns it over with an errant pass.

Brandone Francis hits a mid-range jumper. If it's any indication of how poor the shooting has been in this game, the CBS broadcast crew went out of its way to awe over the made shot.

Davide Moretti hits the game's first 3-pointer. Texas Tech leads, 11-6. Jordan Poole hits a layup on the other end.

Ignas Brazdeikis misses a 3. Isaiah Livers misses a 3. 

Deshawn Corprew hits a layup; Brazdeikis answers with a layup of his own on the other end. It's 13-10, Tech.

Both teams struggling from field in low-scoring affair

Davide Moretti sinks a pair of free throws after getting fouled by Jordan Poole. All tied at 4.

Ignas Brazdeikis misses his first shot of the game, a contested 3-pointer. Michigan forces a shot-clock violation on the next defensive possession.

Zavier Simpson, Eli Brooks and Ignas Brazdeikis all miss shots on the other end. The Wolverines then get a stop, and Jon Teske is fouled moments later. Simpson misses another hook shot.

Jarrett Culver hits a layup to put Texas Tech up, 6-4, with 13 minutes left in the half. This one's a barnburner, folks.

Defenses dominating in Michigan-Texas Tech early 

Texas Tech wins the tip. Matt Mooney hits a short-range jumper to give the Red Raiders a 2-0 lead. Charles Matthews is picked off on Michigan's first possession.

After Texas Tech fails to score, Matthews turns it over looking for an alley-oop to Ignas Brazdeikis. Mooney then misses another short jump shot. 

Jon Teske gets it inside to Jordan Poole, who gets Michigan on the board with a layup. Zavier Simpson looks for a floating hook shot, misses. The ball will stay with Michigan, as Texas Tech's Tariq Owens is called for a foul on the glass.

Simpson finds a cutting Matthews on the in-bounds play, who lays it up and in for an easy 2. Michigan leads, 4-2.
