Grand Rapids man identified as fisherman who drowned Saturday in Lake Erie

James Milton Behrens, 66, of Grand Rapids fell into the water from a boat near the Brest Bay area in Frenchtown Township, the Monroe County Sheriff's Office said.

The Monroe County Sheriff's Office has identified a Grand Rapids man as the person who drowned Saturday morning while fishing on Lake Erie.

The sheriff's office said James Milton Behrens, 66, fell into the water from a boat near the Brest Bay area in Frenchtown Township. People there with him got him of the water and began life-saving measures but were unsuccessful.

Sheriff's deputies and medics responded to the call about 9 a.m. Saturday. The Frenchtown Township Fire Department and Monroe Community Ambulance assisted at the scene.

The incident remains under investigation by the Monroe County Sheriff's Office.
