DIY blogger Sarah Lemp of Livonia has an unusual hobby: she buys and flips old RVs. Her renovated 1994 Horizon 29-foot Class C RV, her latest project, sits just outside her home. Earlier this year, she and her husband used it to take their five kids to Disney World.

A jack-knife sofa next to the kitchen also turns into a bed. Lemp replaced the original with one found at a local RV dealership. She painted the interior white to brighten it up.

Instead of using bags or suitcases, Lemp gives each of her children a bin to store their clothes during their travels. With limited space, she said things can get cluttered quickly.

Lemp, painting the door of her family ' s RV, says her dad was also a huge DIY-er. He was always reading manuals to fix cars or whatever else needing fixing. " He taught himself everything he knew about auto mechanics, " she said.

Lemp sits with a cup of coffee in front of her RV. She really didn ' t have a game plan before she tackled renovating her first RV, a vintage " canned ham " -style trailer that the family knicknamed " Gidget, " but it was her dream. " I thought, ' Hey, we can do this! ' " she said.

Lemp's first RV project was a 1956 vintage trailer that she found on Craiglist. She and Jason bought it for $1,700 and fixed it up before later selling it to a friend. She nicknamed the trailer "Gidget." "She wasn’t much to look at in the beginning, but I had a vision for what she could be!" Lemp wrote in a blog post about the project.
