Ann Arbor — Michigan quarterback Shea Patterson said he is fully recovered from an oblique injury that hampered him the Wolverines’ first two games.

Patterson was injured on the first play of the season against Middle Tennessee State when he fumbled the ball. Michigan was off last Saturday, giving him and the other injured players additional time to heal heading into Saturday’s Big Ten opener at Wisconsin.

Michigan quarterback Shea Patterson says he's fully recovered from an oblique injury that hampered him during the team's first two games.

“Got banged up the first game and that did kinda wear on me a little, but but I’m ready to go, 100 percent,” Patterson said Tuesday night after practice.

Patterson said the injury affected him on many levels, taking away some of his mobility and movement. He’s also had an issue hanging onto the football — he had the fumble against MTSU and two against Army.

“It affected all aspects of it,” Patterson said. “Oblique is no fun. I’m ready to go.”

He doesn’t know how exactly the injury happened.

“It stung a little bit,” he said. “Couldn’t really rotate all the way. It was more mental I think. I’m healthy, 100 percent, can’t wait to get out there with the guys.”

Left tackle Jon Runyan, All-Big Ten last season, has missed the first two games but is expected to play at Wisconsin. It remains unclear whether dynamic receiver Donovan Peoples-Jones will be able to play. He also has missed the first two games — Peoples-Jones was on the sideline for the opener with a boot on his right foot but was not wearing the boot for the Army game.

“I’m not sure,” Patterson said when asked if Peoples-Jones will return Saturday. “He’s getting better every single day, every single week. Can’t wait for him to get back out there.”

He was asked if Peoples-Jones is practicing.

“As far as I know,” he said.
