As Eagles battle injury woes, Lions relatively healthy

Allen Park — The Detroit Lions remain relatively healthy heading into the team's Week 3 matchup with the Philadelphia Eagles. As for the Eagles, not so much. 

The Eagles' roster is in such rough shape, the team downgraded from a regular practice to a walk-through on Wednesday. 

In Sunday night's loss to the Falcons, the Eagles lost receivers Alshon Jeffery and DeSean Jackson, tight end Dallas Goedert, and defensive tackle Timmy Jernigan to injury. Several others, including quarterback Carson Wentz and center Jason Kelce, left the game, but were able to return. 

Jernigan and Jackson aren't expected to play Sunday against the Lions due to their injuries. 

“It’s not like the sky is falling and guys aren’t going to play," Eagles coach Doug Pederson said on a conference call with Detroit media. "I just wanted them to get the mental reps today, and we don’t have to do it in a full-speed, team-type of practice.

"The guys that are a little banged up can still get that mental rep and still be in the practice without having the full speed or the physicality, let’s say of having pads on during that practice.”

It's not unusual for a team to reduce its Wednesday practice to a walk-through, but it typically happens either after a Monday night game, before a Thursday game or late in the season, when cumulative injuries are taking a toll on the roster. 

The Lions did something similar late last season. But for now, the roster is in good shape.

Detroit was down three players for last week's victory over the Chargers — offensive tackle Taylor Decker, linebacker Jarrad Davis and defensive tackle Da'Shawn Hand — but all three were in uniform working to varying degrees during the portion of practice open to the media Wednesday afternoon. 

All Lions players were in uniform.
