Report: Michigan State linebacker Brandon Bouyer-Randle enters transfer portal

East Lansing — Michigan State linebacker Brandon Bouyer-Randle has entered the NCAA transfer portal, according to a 247Sports report.

The junior from Battle Creek Central appeared in all four games this season for the Spartans, recording just five tackles.

Players who have entered the portal, which was implemented last year by the NCAA, can be contacted by coaches from other programs. The player, though, can remain at his current school while his name is in the portal and it does not mean that player can’t remain at his original institution.

Bouyer-Randle, who redshirted in 2016, has played in 30 career games at Michigan State and has 31 tackles, including six for loss with 4.5 sacks. He’s also forced two fumbles and recovered a pair of fumbles. Entering this week’s game with Indiana, Bouyer-Randle was listed as the No. 2 SAM linebacker behind fifth-year senior Tyriq Thompson.

Michigan State did not immediately respond to a message seeking comment.

Michigan State coach Mark Dantonio was asked on Tuesday if he expected any transfers from veteran players as the four-game redshirt rule is now in its second year and how a team would adjust to that.

“I don't anticipate it. It may happen,” Dantonio said. “I'm sure that today's society, anything's possible, I guess. But I've not heard of that yet, but I could see things happening like that as you go through the course of a year, and how you address it, you've got to get your young guys ready to play if something like that happens with a veteran guy.”
