Michigan commit Braiden McGregor to miss rest of senior season with knee injury

A Michigan commit and one of the state’s top high school football players will miss the rest of the season with a knee injury.

Port Huron Northern senior Braiden McGregor, a four-star defensive end prospect, tore the medial collateral ligament and damaged the meniscus and posterior cruciate ligament in his right knee on Friday night, according to his mother Tara McGregor.

McGregor will have surgery at a Michigan Medicine facility next week and hopes to be ready for spring practice this year in Ann Arbor after enrolling in January.

McGregor went down late in the fourth quarter of Friday night’s Crosstown Showdown, a 29-26 victory over rival Port Huron High for the Brick Fowler Trophy.

At 6-foot-6, 260 pounds, McGregor is the No. 2 recruit on the Detroit News list and is the No. 106 player nationally on the 247Sports.com composite list. He chose Michigan over Notre Dame, Clemson, Ohio State, Florida and Alabama in May.

Port Huron Northern (6-1, 4-0 Macomb Area Conference Blue Division) plays at Roseville on Friday night with a chance to wrap up the division title. Friday’s win qualified Northern for the state playoffs for the fourth straight season, and the team is No. 6 in the weekly Detroit News East rankings.
