On the day Michigan State had a former running back enter the transfer portal, the Spartans gained a commitment from a three-star running back for the 2020 class.

Jordon Simmons, a 5-foot-10, 185-pound back from McEachern High in Powder Springs, Georgia, announced on Twitter Monday night that he had committed to the Spartans.

Simmons is ranked the No. 39 running back in the nation, according to the composite rankings at 247sports.com. He chose Michigan State from a final 10 schools that included LSU, Louisville, West Virginia, Oregon, Arkansas, Georgia, Florida State, Colorado and Ole Miss.

The Spartans now have 15 players committed to the class and Simmons is the first running back, a spot Michigan State will have to continue to focus on after running backs Connor Heyward and La’Darius Jefferson entered the transfer portal, while current wide receiver and former running back Weston Bridges made the same move on Monday.

Michigan State currently has only three scholarship running backs on the roster, including redshirt freshman Elijah Collins and true freshmen Anthony Williams and Brandon Wright. Only Wright has yet to appear in a game.
