What do Detroit Mercy’s Antoine Davis, Michigan’s Zavier Simpson and Jon Teske, and Michigan State’s Cassius Winston, Joshua Langford and Xavier Tillman all have in common?

They all were named to preseason watch lists at their respective positions this week.

Simpson and Winston were selected for the Bob Cousy Award, which is given to the nation’s top point guard, while Davis and Langford were listed for the Jerry West Award, which honors the top shooting guard.

Tillman is one of five Big Ten players in the running for the Karl Malone Award, which recognizes the nation’s top power forward, along with Purdue’s Trevion Williams (Detroit Henry Ford Academy). Teske made the listing for the Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Award, which is handed out to the top center.

Davis, last year’s Horizon League freshman of the year, and Winston, the reigning Big Ten player of the year, were also voted the preseason player of the year in their conferences this month.

Each preseason watch list contains 20 players and will be narrowed to 10 by mid-February. Five finalists will be named in March before the awards are handed out by the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame on April 10.
