Game summary

Giles Jackson’s 97-yard touchdown return on the opening kickoff was nearly all that Michigan would need to pick up a win at Maryland on Saturday, as the Wolverines defense muffled the Terrapins offense for just 233 yards of offense and no points in a 38-7 win.

Maryland comes up short in final chance at points

Lance Legendre is in at quarterback for Maryland.

Tyler Fleet-Davis rushes for a gain of 3 on first down. Legendre moves the chains with a gain of 8 on second down.

Legendre then gashes the Wolverine defense for runs of 16 and 15 yards to set up first-and-10 at the Michigan 16.

Legendre throws incomplete on first down but is able to complete a 7-yard throw to Fleet-Davis on second down. Fleet-Davis is stopped for a gain of 2 on the next play, but moves the chains on fourth-and-1 with a gain of 2.

Legendre loses 3 yards on the next play, and that'll do it for this one.

Michigan goes three-and-out while backed up in own territory

Christian Turner to start the drive gets his second carry of the game, and just like his first, he's dropped in the backfield for a loss of 5. Turner gets 4 of those yards back on second down. Dylan McCaffrey's throw on third down is caught by Giles Jackson for a gain of 4.

Will Hart's punt is fair caught by Javon Leake at the Maryland 42.

Promising Maryland drive halted in Michigan territory

Touchback. Maryland gets it at the 25.

Josh Jackson finds Brian Cobbs for an 8-yard completion on first down. Tayon Fleet-Davis picks up a first down for the Terps with a run of 4 yards.

Jackson's first-down throw to Cobbs is caught for a gain of 17, moving Maryland into Michigan territory at the 47.

Fleet-Davis runs for 6 yards on first down. Cobb catches a pass in the flat and goes down just short of the marker. Fleet-Davis makes the line-to-gain with a 1-yard run on third down.

Jackson is immediately pressured on the next play, and his pass is deflected at the line by Khaleke Hudson. Fleet-Davis rushes for a gain of 2 on second down. Aidan Hutchinson then sacks Jackson for a loss of 8, Michigan's fourth of the game.

Dylan McCaffrey rolls left and fires incomplete to Sean McKeon on first down. His second-down throw to Mike Sainristil is on the money, but dropped. He connects with Tarik Black on third down for a 10-yard gain that'll move the sticks.

Tru Wilson rushes for a gain of 4 on first down. McCaffrey rushes for 4 more on second down and Hassan Haskins gets a new set of downs for the Wolverines with a gain of 1 on third down.

Haskins rushes for 4 more on the next play. McCaffrey is dropped for a loss of 1 on second down, and would have thrown an interception on third down, had it not been for McKeon's efforts to break up a poor pass that was headed right for Keandre Jones.

Quinn Nordin's 38-yard field goal is through.

Josh Jackson throws a deep ball to Dontay Demus on first down that falls incomplete. Anthony McFarland picks up a chunk of 15 yards on second down.

Jackson throws another incompletion to Demus on first down. McFarland gets it again on second down, but this time, he's dropped in the backfield by Cam McGrone for a loss of 2. Jackson's third-down throw to Javon Leake falls incomplete. 

Colton Spangler's punt is shanked and goes out of bounds at the Maryland 43 for a net of only 15 yards.

McCaffrey enters game at quarterback for Michigan

Giles Jackson returns the kickoff 24 yards before being spun to the turf at his 29.

Dylan McCaffrey is in the game at quarterback for Michigan. Tru Wilson is wrapped up for a loss of 2 on first down. McCaffrey on second down takes an errant shot to Nico Collins down the right sideline, which had a chance to be intercepted. It'll instead be third-and-12. McCaffrey dumps it off to Wilson underneath for a gain of 11.

Michigan opens the drive from its 38.

Shea Patterson throws incomplete to Sean McKeon on first down. Tru WIlson does a role call of Wolverine fans in attendance on second down, as his 39-yard run draws a quiet hum of "Truuuuu" from the Michigan faithful in College Park.

Wilson gets it again on the next two plays, rushing for gains of 6 and 3. Hassan Haskins goes right up the middle on third down and gets into the end zone for a 14-yard score.

Maryland takes the kickoff for a touchback and will start at the 25.

Josh Jackson throws complete to Carlos Carriere on a quick slant for a gain of 6. Khaleke Hudson and Carlo Kemp sack Jackson for a loss of 6 on second down. Jackson is dropped for a 1-yard gain while trying to flush the pocket on third down.

Devin Gil gets a hand on Maryland's punt, and it's eventually downed at the Michigan 38.

Michigan goes 60 yards in 12 plays to take 28-0 lead

Shea Patterson throws complete to Donovan Peoples-Jones on first down for a gain of 7. Zach Charbonnet keeps things moving along with a 4-yard run that'll give Michigan a first down at the Maryland 49.

Charbonnet goes up the middle on the next play, a gain of 7, and then reaches the Maryland 37 with a 5-yard run to the right-side edge on second down. First-and-10.

Patterson quickly finds Eubanks to his left for a 6-yard completion. Ronnie Bell then catches a pass in the flat and dashes forward to the Maryland 25 for a gain of 5 and another new set of downs.

Michigan goes right back to Bell but on the other side of the field, and this time the Wolverines pick up a chunk of 14 yards before Bell goes out of bounds at the 11.

Tarik Black catches a throw from Patterson in the end zone on the next play, but he's unable to get a foot down in-bounds. Incomplete. Patterson attempts to throw into a tight window on second down, and his pass is batted away. Nico Collins can't haul in a one-handed throw from Patterson on the next play, but there is a pass interference penalty assessed to the Terps. It'll be first-and-goal at the 2.

Hassan Haskins' first-down run is called back for a holding penalty. Now it's first-and-goal at the 12.

Haskins catches a pass from Patterson on first down and is immediately dropped by Antoine Brooks for no gain. Haskins patiently fights his way through the middle for a gain of 7 on second down. Patterson pulls from Haskins and throws to a wide-open Eubanks for a Michigan touchdown.

McFarland lone bright spot for struggling Maryland offense

Maryland takes over at the 12.

Anthony McFarland runs for a gain of 12 on first down, moving the chains.

The Terps go back to McFarland on the next play, a gain of 5. McFarland makes it third-and-2 with a 3-yard pickup on second down. Javon Leake is stopped for a yard on third down, bringing up fourth-and-1 at the Maryland 33. The Terps line up as if they're going to snap it, but merely try to draw Michigan offsides.

McFarland rushes for 4 yards on the next play, opening things up for Jackson to hit Brian Cobbs over the middle for a big completion that's good for 24 yards and a first down at the Michigan 11.

Haskins rushes for 6 on first down. Patterson can't connect with Collins on a fade in the end zone on second down, bringing up third-and-4 from the 10. Patterson's third-down throw is caught by Peoples-Jones, but he's inches short of the line to gain. Patterson sneaks it up the middle to move the sticks.

Patterson runs off the left tackle, gets down to the 1 on first down. Zach Charbonnet is dropped at the 2 on second down, but he takes a direct snap into the end zone on second down to give the Wolverines a two-score lead.

That's Charbonnet's 10th touchdown of the season, the most by a Michigan freshman in school history.
