Michigan quarterback Shea Patterson threw for four touchdowns and completed passes to nine different receivers on Saturday in Ann Arbor, as the Wolverines (8-2, 5-2 B10 East) racked up 467 yards of offense on Michigan State en route to a 44-10 shellacking of the arch-rival Spartans (4-6, 2-5) to retain the Paul Bunyan trophy.

Michigan adds insult to injury with long third-down touchdown pass

Michigan takes over at the 26 after an 8-yard punt return by Donovan Peoples-Jones. 

Tru Wilson rushes for 2 yards on first down and 5 yards on second down. Shea Patterson fakes the give and scrambles for 6 yards, plus a new set of downs at the Michigan 38.

Mike Panasiuk, whose brother Jacub was ejected for a personal foul earlier in this game, is flagged for an unsportsmanlike penalty. Michigan will have a first down at the Michigan State 47.

Wilson runs for 9 yards on first down before losing a yard on second down. Patterson throws to Cornelius Johnson on third down, and nobody's going to get him. It's another Michigan touchdown.

Michigan State offense entering tailspin as game nears end

Michigan State takes over at the 25.

Brian Lewerke rushes for 4 yards on first down. He hits Cody White on the next play for a 7-yard gain and a new set of downs.

Lewerke is hit by two Michigan defenders on a first-down incompletion, then is forced into another bad throw by Josh Uche on second down that also falls incomplete. Lewerke's throw on third down, as you may have guessed, also falls incomplete. 

Then, some hilarity ensues. Jake Hartbarger's punt is returned 50 yards by Donovan Peoples-Jones, who then turns the ball over with a fumble. Michigan State has it first-and-10 at the 39 when it's all said and done.

Lewerke is sacked for a 7-yard loss on first down. He hits Matt Seybert for a gain of 7 on second down, and then goes back to the tight end on third down for a 5-yard completion.

Second Lewerke interception leads to 37-10 Michigan lead

Michigan takes over at the Michigan State 44 after Lavert Hill's interception of Brian Lewerke.

Michigan State's Jacub Panasiuk is ejected for a late hit on Shea Patterson on first down, a completion to Ronnie Bell that's voided due to an illegal block by Michigan's Mike Sainistril. They'll replay first down.

Tru Wilson rushes for a yard on first down. Patterson runs for 8 yards on second down. Wilson picks up the new set of downs with a 2-yard run.

Bell hauls in another pass on the next play, a 12-yard completion that puts him at 150 yards receiving on the day. Michigan has a first down at the Spartans 21.

Patterson fumbles while being hit by Kenny Willekes, but the ball is recovered by Michigan for a loss of 11. Wilson rushes for 2 yards on second down. Donovan Peoples-Jones catches a pass in the flat that probably should have been stopped for no gain and gets all the way to the end zone, but after review, it's ruled that he stepped out of bounds at the 15. Quinn Nordin will be out on fourth-and-4.

Michigan State takes over at the 25.

Brian Lewerke completes a 22-yard throw to Cody White on first down, giving the Spartans a first down at the 47.

Lewerke's throw to White on the next play is behind the receiver, tipped, and intercepted by Michigan's Lavert Hill. Michigan Stadium is jumpin'.

Michigan State takes over at the 25.

Elijah Collins catches a pass for 11 yards on first down.

Brian Lewerke gets the shovel pass to Trenton Gillison on the next play for a gain of 7. Collins is stuffed at the line of scrimmage on second and third down, gaining maybe 2 yards in total.

END 3RD: Michigan 27, Michigan State 10

Michigan State plans on going for it on fourth down, but a false start penalty on AJ Arcuri changes its plans. Khaleke Hudson then explodes through the line and blocks Jake Hartbarger's punt, which is recovered at the Michigan State 22 by the Spartans for a turnover on downs.

Michigan wastes zero time getting into the end zone, as Nico Collins goes up and gets a great throw from Shea Patterson on the next play from scrimmage to officially start the party in Ann Arbor.

Cole Hahn's kickoff goes out of bounds. Michigan will start at the 35.

Giles Jackson on first down takes an end-around for a gain of 11. 

Tru Wilson rushes for 3 yards on the next play. He gets another yard on second down. Tarik Black catches a pass from Shea Patterson that's good for 27 yards on third down. Black flexes his muscles after getting up, which draws an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty. It'll be first-and-10 at the Michigan State 38.

Michigan runs a trick play that's blown up and also yields a penalty on Michigan. It'll be second-and-23 at the Michigan 49. Patterson hits Wilson for a 3-yard gain. Patterson drops a perfect throw into the seam for Sean McKeon, who gets wide open underneath the secondary and slides to the turf while reeling in a 27-yard completion. First down, Wolverines, at the Michigan State 21.

Patterson's throw to the end zone on first down is broken up by Shakur Brown. Wilson runs for 2 yards on second down. Patterson is chased from the pocket and trips while trying to let go of his pass, a sack that loses 12 yards.

Quinn Nordin's 49-yard field goal try is good.

Michigan State takes over at the 25.

Brian Lewerke's first-down pass falls incomplete. Elijah Collins gets 4 yards on the ground on second down. Lewerke scrambles on third down and is tackled a yard short of the first-down marker.

Michigan State will go for it on fourth-and-1 at its own 34, a successful endeavor as Lewerke keeps for a 3-yard gain.

Collins goes for a gain of 3 on first down. Julian Barnett runs for 10 yards on second down.

Lewerke makes a nice throw to Matt Seybert near the right sideline for a 20-yard pitch and catch. The Spartans have a first down at the Michigan 30.

Cody White is dropped by Ambry Thomas for a loss of 1 on first down.

Lewerke throws complete to Collins for an 8-yard gain on second down. Michigan takes an illegal substitution penalty, giving the Spartans a first down at the 18.

Lewerke's throw to White on first down is caught, but only for a yard. He's then wrapped up at the line of scrimmage for no gain, and on third down, his throw is far too short.

Matt Coghlin's 35-yard field goal try is good.

Michigan takes 24-7 lead after Lewerke interception

Michigan comes out firing to start the drive, as Shea Patterson hits Sean McKeon for a 19-yard pickup that'll move the Wolverines into Spartans territory.

Patterson can't hit Nico Collins on the next play. On second down he finds Ronnie Bell, who picks up a handful of yards after the catch and gets to the Michigan State 18 for a gain of 20.

Donovan Peoples-Jones catches a throw in the flat, makes a few men miss on his way to an 18-yard score for the Wolverines.

Lewerke throws interception in Michigan territory

Michigan State opens the half at its 25.

Michigan takes three penalties on the half's first play from scrimmage, the accepted one being a roughing-the-passer penalty on Kwity Paye. It'll be first-and-10 for the Spartans at their own 40, and the play is now being reviewed for targeting.

Paye will not be ejected for targeting.

Brian Lewerke's first-down throw to Cody White is a wobbler that falls short of the target. Josh Metellus hits Lewerke at the original line of scrimmage for no gain on second down. Lewerke throws another terrible pass on third down, and this time he pays for it, as Michigan's Ambry Thomas has an easy interception at the Michigan 43.

Patterson makes a perfect throw to Bell after Tre Person trips in coverage, and Bell gets all the way to the Michigan State 11 for a gain of 42. That puts Bell at 118 receiving yards on the afternoon.

Zach Charbonnet is stopped for a 1-yard gain on first down and no gain on second down. Patterson's throw to the end zone on third down is broken up nicely by Shakur Brown.

Collins takes the end-around for a gain of 3 yards. Cody White catches a pass from Brian Lewerke on second down that goes for a big gain, but unsportsmanlike conduct penalties on White and Luke Campbell back the Spartans up 30 yards. It would have been first-and-10 at the Michigan 37, instead it'll be first-and-10 at the Michigan State 33.

Brandon Wright rushes for 2 yards on first down and 3 on second down. Lewerke makes a great read and hits Julian Barnett quickly for a 10-yard gain.

Lewerke is shoved out of bounds by Jordan Glasgow for a gain of 1 at the 49 on first down. Collins gets to the Michigan 49 for a gain of 2 on second down. Daxton Hill breaks up Lewerke's throw to White on third down.

Patterson swings it out on first down to Donovan Peoples-Jones, who makes one man miss as he goes out of bounds, and is then hit by Michigan State's Shakur Brown. The hit was just a tad late, but it'll draw a flag, anyway. Michigan has it first-and-10 at the Spartan 29.

Collins hauls in an 8-yard reception on first down. Patterson throws on second down to Ronnie Bell, who gets to the Michigan State 3 for a gain of 18.

Michigan runs the wildcat out of the intermission. Hassan Haskins rushes for 2 yards on first down, then gets into the end zone on second down. Tie game.

Michigan State takes over at the 40 after Michigan's turnover on downs.

Brian Lewerke's first-down pass is broken up by C.J. Hayes. Brandon Wright on first down is stopped for a gain of only 1. Lewerke hits Julian Barnett on third down for a gain of 13, giving the Spartans a first down at the Michigan 46.

Lewerke's throw on first down is over Anthony Williams' head. Elijah Collins rushes for 3 on second down. Barnett hauls in a throw from Lewerke on third down, but it's only for a gain of 6. Lewerke keeps on fourth-and-1, hitting a hole for a gain of 7 to keep the drive alive. First down, Spartans, at the 30.

Lewerke hits Cody White down the seam for a 29-yard completion that's initially ruled a touchdown, but will instead be first-and-goal at the 1. Peculiar reversal, as it didn't look like there was conclusive evidence. 

Alas, the Spartans take a lead on the next play, a 1-yard touchdown throw to Max Rosenthal.

Hassan Haskins rushes for 3 yards on first down. Shea Patterson makes some room for himself and finds Mike Sainristil for a pickup of 15. The Wolverines have a first down at the 32.

Giles Jackson then moves Michigan into Spartan territory, racing to the 47-yard-line with a 21-yard pickup.

Patterson's first-down throw to Ronnie Bell falls incomplete. Haskins rushes for 7 yards on second down. Patteron's throw to Tarik Black on third down is incomplete, and on fourth down, Patterson's throw to Nico Collins is broken up by Josh Butler.

Michigan State has dropped four straight, including a fourth-quarter collapse last weekend against Illinois, while No. 14 Michigan has won five of six, including its last two by a combined score of 83-21.
